"...SUNG WITH REMARKABLE POWER AND
ENERGY..."
LA Weekly: PILGRIM REVIEW
By Tom Provenzano (Monday, April 3, 2006) -
"Composer-playwright John Stothers has been
crafting this musical spectacle for well over a
decade, in search of absolute excess — visually,
aurally and dramatically. In a world suggested by
the darkly Gothic images of 16th-century painter
Hieronymus Bosch, Stothers explores archetypal
episodes of power and human cruelty as he pits
wealthy guild masters against enslaved crafters. A
mostly heavy, angry rock score occasionally gives
way to emotional ballads, all sung with remarkable
power and energy by the young cast..."

AN EPIC IN THE MAKING...
ReviewPlays.com: PILGRIM REVIEW
By Jose Ruiz (April 2006) -
"It should come as no surprise that we are
seeing mythical and fantasy tales in the theatres of
Los Angeles.... RustyCup’s production of Pilgrim
certainly fills that bill. The mythical tale does
not have a typical boy gets girl ending, nor is the
good over evil triumph spelled out with clear-cut
edges, but it does have an awesome set, catchy songs
and music, a cast that delivers with gusto and a
story that develops between dream sequences and
philosophical ramblings by a compelling lunatic..."

DIARY OF A MADMAN
By Dan Shippey (March 8, 2006) -
When the lights come up for the first time on
March 16th, the first voice you'll hear is that of a
lunatic named Hieronymus. The character of
Hieronymus, whose personality seems to dominate the
show, is brought to life by veteran actor Robert
Patteri (Scarlet Pimpernel, Beauty and the
Beast, etc).

CUTTING EDGE
By Dan Shippey (Feb 27, 2006) - When
John Stothers created PILGRIM, he
imagined wild dream sequences that were completely
original to the world of musical theatre. One of
these dreams included acrobats fighting with swords
while suspended in the air. The production team knew
that they could not depend upon any ordinary
choreographer to tackle these challenges, and they
asked, "Who can we call to create this action on
stage?"
